Receiving Stations at Turpin AND King Street are for Liquid Discharges Only
- Anchorage Wastewater Tariff, 15.3 (A) states, “Cesspool, septic tank, and holding tank pumper trucks shall discharge wastewater into designated facilities only.”
- Vactor Trucks are not permitted.
* Receiving Stations sites are for accepting and treating wastewater collected by pumper trucks.
* Receiving Stations are designed only to receive and handle liquid wastewater discharges.
* Receiving Stations are not designed to handle any solid material. - Turpin Station closed first Wednesday of every month, 8am – 1pm, for maintenance
Customers Are Responsible For Proper Use Of Receiving Stations
- Haulers’ discharges must meet tariff discharge requirements.
- Haulers may not connect to Utility facilities or equipment without Utility authorization.
- Haulers must use Utility facilities and equipment safely and responsibly.
- Haulers will take reasonable precautions to ensure Utility facilities, equipment, and property are not damaged.
- Haulers will not disrupt any function of the receiving station’s operations.
Illegal Discharges Increase Costs To Receiving Station Users
- Illegal discharges of gravel, rocks and FOG (Fats, Oils, and Grease) cause operational and maintenance problems at Receiving Stations.
* Sewer line plugs and sanitary sewer overflows.
* Unexpected station closures for maintenance and repair.
* Illegal discharges and improper use of Utility facilities increase maintenance and capital costs. These additional expenses directly impact customer rates. - The Utility is monitoring what is being discharged into our system in an effort to reduce costs.
- Properly used, the Receiving Station facilities will require less maintenance and reduce station down time.
- The Utility is prepared to assist Haulers to use the Receiving Stations and its equipment in the proper manner.
Why Has The Utility Increased The Frequency Of Sampling At Its Stations?
- The Utility is verifying what septic haulers are discharging and identifying the waste they are dumping.
- The Utility is verifying the amount of waste dumped and measuring it with a flow meter to better accurately record the amount instead of relying on an estimated truck load volume.
