How to Read Your Bill

1. Contact Us  

2. Bill Date: Bill generation date 

3. Total Due: Sum of previous balance, payments, charges, and adjustments 

4. Account #: Account number assigned to the service address

5. Service: Service address or service type 

6. Announcements:  Provide a variety of Utility and non-utility information.

7. Previous Balance: Ending balance from previous billing period

8. Payment(s) Received: Payment(s) received during this billing period 

9. Adjustments: Credits and Debits applied during this billing period

10. Balance Forward: Sum of items 7, 8, 9 

11. Current Charges: Charges ($) for services during this billing period 

12. Coins Can Count:  Roundup donation used to assist customers in need

13. Date: Date payment is due to avoid delinquency 

14. Efficiency Reminder 

15. Utility Message 

16. Current: Year to date charges this year 

17. Previous: Prior year total charges 

18. Unmetered Resi Fire Protection: Fire protection related costs related to providing the necessary facilities and fire flow requirements for adequate fire protection purposes

19. Customer Charge: A fixed monthly charge per Account to recover costs associated with rendering a monthly billing statement and maintaining account information

20. Residential Service: Service to treat, test and deliver water and maintain all water / wastewater pipes and treatment facilities 

21. Regulatory Cost: Mandatory surcharge applied to all regulated customer billings to pay the Utility’s share of the Regulatory Commission of Alaska budget

22. PRISM: Plant Replacement and Improvement Surcharge, calculated on an annual basis by dividing the total annual water and wastewater eligible capital costs by AWU/ ASU projected annual revenue

23. Rate Code: Billing codes established in Tariff for Water and Wastewater 

24. Units: Number of dwellings or trips 

25. From/To: Dates of service 

26. Autopay Reminder 

27. Cycle: Date each month the bill is generated 

28. Mailing address on file for each account
